Love is our true essence, and other lesson from Amma.

“Love is our true essence.” Amma, the Mother of Immortal Bliss.

Love is our true essence, and other lesson from Amma.

If you have not heard of Amma, a Hindu Spiritual Leader and Guru, aka “The Hugging Saint”, then let me introduce you to her and some of her teachings briefly. What I know for sure is that when something ‘jumps” out at you three or more times, it is a sign from the Universe trying to get your attention. I first heard about Amma a few years ago, and ever since she keeps popping up in my life and I am glad she does.

Amma is known as “The Hugging Saint,” because according to her website, “for the past 35 years Amma has dedicated her life to the uplifting of suffering humanity through the simplest of gestures — an embrace.  She lives from moment to moment in a constant state of supreme happiness, warmly embracing thousands of people day after day, wiping their tears, giving them her divine guidance and offering solace to all who come to her.”

She is also known for her humanitarian work which includes a program to house the homeless, build orphanages, and provide relief-and-rehabilitation in the aftermath of disasters such as the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Her charities provide free medical care, pensions for widows and disabled people, aid environmental-protection groups, renovate and urbanize slums, build care facilities for the elderly, and offer free food and clothing for the poor.

Like any person in the public eye, she also gets her fair share of critisism, but one can’t help but feel peaceful watching her in action, or reading some of her teachings. Because she keeps popping up in my life, and because I feel peaceful just looking at her, I’d thought I’d share some of my favorite Amma quotes with you. May you feel hugged and at peace as you read these quotes I selected for you. Virtual Hug! ((())))

Some awesome Amma sayings:

  • Our real father and mother is God. Others are only foster parents
  • The love that exists in the heart cannot be spoken; it cannot be put in words
  • Realize that the real problem is not what is happening, but how you are reacting to it
  • Discontentment is the real poverty; contentment the real prosperity
  • Never forget God. Never forget your real Source. Never move away from the real center within you
  • Only by giving will we receive
  • Facing the different situations of life with a positive attitude and openness brings maturity and understanding
  • It doesn’t matter if one believes in God or not as long as he or she serves others
  • Forgive. It is the way to Peace and Love
  • Even when you work, your thoughts should be on God (Love). Any work you do while focusing your mind on God is karma yoga
  • There is no difference between the Creator and creation, just as there is no difference between the ocean and its waves
  • Patience, constant enthusiasm and firm determination are necessary factors for success
  • Never return anger with the same. An angry person needs to be calmed down, not aggravated
  • When your heart is filled with nothing but love, all of Nature will be your friend and will serve you
  • When understood deeply, painful experiences have a positive effect on our life
  • Every moment of life is so utterly precious, such a rare opportunity. We should not waste it
  • Pray: May none of my thoughts, words or deeds ever harm anyone
  • Love is our true essence
Take Action Challenge: See if you can just focus on giving love to everyone you meet this week, including yourself and see if you can hug at least one person per day for a week. Who is the first person you will hug?

The Six Steps to Achieving any Goal

“People with clear, written goals, accomplish far more in a shorter period of time than people without them could ever imagine.”

– Brian Tracy

This blog post is about the six steps to achieving any goal, large or small. Knowing these steps will change your life, propel you into action and get you feeling excited and inspired by yourself. I will be writing about each step in more detail in upcoming blog posts, but for now here are the 6 steps you can begin using right away. They are fool proof and work every time!  The six steps to achieving any goal are:

1. Decide what you want.

2. Put it in writing. Studies show that people who write their goals down are more likely to make them happen.

3. Put some support in place. All successful people have a team of supportive people around them.

4. Create a vision board: Cut out pictures of your goal as a reminder of your goal and look at it daily. If you are not a visual person, then writing a paragraph about your goal also works.

5. Create an affirmation. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, you could write something like; “I am now my perfect weight and I feel great.” This helps to create the feeling you want to achieve  and activates the law of attraction and will make  it happen more quickly.

6. Take action. Write down 5 action steps you can take right away. Make sure they are small, manageable and doable.

I hope this inspires you, gives you a great tool for life and inspires you to go out and achieve ANY goal. Have a great rest of the week,  you little goal achiever you!

Love,

Jamie

Which steps do you need to put in place to make sure you achieve your goal?

Affirm: I now know how to  achieve my goals easily and effortlessly and I am so excited.

There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk

(Dorothy) “How many times does a girl have to bang her head on a brick wall before it bleeds? (Rose),…….9!” From an episode of the Golden Girls

I have always loved this
poem by Portia Nelson, published in her book
There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self-Discovery. In order to create lives we love we need to become aware (without judgement) of the choices that we make that feel like falling into a big hole. What comes up for you as you read this poem?

Chapter I

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost … I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter II

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter III

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit … but,
my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter IV

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter V

I walk down another street.

Coaching Tip:  Which chapter best describes where you are in your life right now? What choices to do you make on a daily weekly or monthly basis that are like falling into a big hole for you?  What could you do to turn the page and start over? What loving support could you put in place to make it happen?

Affirm: “I now release absolutely everything that causes me to be mean to myself.” Cheryl Richardson

Hope this inspires you to make better choices for yourself.  Have a fantastic week.

Here is the poem read and filmed in a very creative way. Enjoy!

Living As If

“When you live as if what you want is already your reality, you gain a whole new perspective on your life.” Arielle Ford

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a flight attendant. We traveled a lot when I was a kid. By the time I was 14, I had already been on over 10 trips. I remember watching the crew in awe, as they walked through the airport. I loved their uniforms. The women especially looked so glamourous with their slicked back hair, high heels and kind smiles. I remember wanting to be a flight attendant so badly. It’s all I dreamed of. I used to pretend I was a flight attendant in high school. The picture attached, is of me on a school trip, pretending to close overhead bins on a plane!

By age 14, I had already memorized my own version of onboard announcements. I remember on that trip, the kind bus driver actually let me use the PA system and we all pretended we were really on an airplane and I was the flight attendant. We all had a good laugh as I went down the aisle of the Grey Hound bus telling everyone to put their seats in an upright position. I then went around and served juice and water.
9 years later at the age of 23, I got hired with Air Canada and my dream was officially realized.
I will never forget the moment of my first flight, as I walked down the aisle and closed REAL airplane overheard bins,..It was a surreal moment of pure pride, gratitude and joy for me.
It was then I realized the power of visualization. I guess you could say I had being using “The Secret” and the law of attraction without even realizing it.
I now have been flying for 13 years. I still love my job, but I do believe in growth and as Oprah Winfrey says “Dream a bigger dream.”
Because I believe that dreams come true, I have now finished my Life Coach training program and graduate December 6th.
Because I used visualization once before, I am now using it for other new dreams of mine….. like being interviewed on t.v. about my coaching (I’ve already practiced a fake interview lol), speaking in front of groups of people and writing my own book to name a few.
Dreams do come true. So dream big.
Action Steps:
What dream have you been longing to manifest?
How could you pretend it into being?
What action steps could you take this week that would give you the feeling of already manifesting it?
Have fun with it,..visualize it and feel it into being!
Affirm: I am now living the life of my dreams, and I am so grateful.
Since writing this blog, an online interview has already happened for me. I was a guest on the “Full Potential Show” with James Rick. Check out the interview here.

Healing Underlying Beliefs

“There are times when no matter how hard we ―try, we are unable to experience that which we say we want in our lives. We set a goal, keep trying to make it happen but it just doesn‘t occur. This experience can be frustrating and detrimental to our confidence and self esteem. But rather than judging ourselves, allowing this experience to define who we are, and developing or enforcing a belief as a result of this, the key is to use this opportunity as a place of exploration. By approaching the experience with curiosity and inquiry, you can unlock the belief that stops you from achieving your goal.” International Coach Academy

Today I was talking to my coach about how I was feeling overwhelmed  with the building of my new website and so we decided to explore some underlying beliefs. In the session I realized that deep down a part of me was feeling not smart enough to create a beautiful website by myself.

We did some inner child work, (which I love to do with my clients as well) and he asked me when was the first time I remember feeling not smart enough. After remembering something that happened to me at the age of 9, my coach and I then explored what I would say to a 9 year old who was not feeling smart enough.

This was my response: “You are so smart. You are beautiful and wonderful. You can do this. I am here to help you and if you feel stuck I will help you in any way I can. We can always ask other nice people to help us as well. Let’s take our time and have fun along the way. I will always be by your side. You are awesome for trying something so new and unknown.” This of course made me feel loved and I’m on my way to healing that belief and creating a wonderful new coaching website.

Coaching tip: Become aware of an area of your life you feel stuck in. What belief, opinion, or judgement could you be reinforcing by constantly creating this outcome?

Affirm: I am willing to look at my underlying beliefs and see them as tiny children that need my love.

A New Day – a New Possibility

“As you move out of the past and open up to the present, you wake up into a new day, a new time, where you are free to be all you ever imagined.” Debbie Ford
I love life. Each moment gives us the opportunity to start over, make a fresh start and become who we are meant to be. I have just completed my coach training. I am so excited about the new journey I am embarking upon and who I am becoming. I’ve had many challenges, as becoming a coach has forced me to look within and face my issues. Two major issues I have had to embrace, are the facts that I have been quite impulsive in the past and I can be or have been quite hard on myself. Thankfully, I now know that I can change through being gentle with myself and not by giving myself a kick in the pants. I am grateful that I have learned this, because for a while I really struggled with what I was going to name my coaching company and my blog. I registered about 3 different domain names and about 8 different blogs at the beginning of my training and I was so confused. Instead of beating myself up, I let go and took some time off to think about it, trusting the answers would come. After much thought, I have decided to go with www.jamiesmithcoaching.com (it is being built at the moment so not much to look at, but it’s going to look fantastic) and now this blog has the same name for branding consistency. (Thanks for the tips Kerri Richardson). This is my first blog post of my new blog. My blog posts will be shorter and more frequent with the intention of inspiring and supporting you to create a life you love. Every day is a new beginning, a chance to reinvent ourselves and become who we are capable of becoming. Who will you become?

Love,

Jamie

Coaching tip: Today is a new day. Be willing to let go of the past and become who you were meant to be.

What can you do today to start over in an area of your life that you have been struggling with, create a fresh start and a new beginning for yourself?
What do you need to let go of in order to reinvent yourself?

Affirm: Every day is a new beginning!

Here is a video to inspire you.
